Scope of Health Care

Health care management is one of the most exciting and enriching field and the term “healthcare industry” has not remained limited to merely the medical staff, but has rather extended far beyond the realm of hospitals, with the integration of other sectors that provide goods and services relevant to curative, preventive, palliative, and rehabilitative care. Healthcare management takes care of all the administrative needs of medical institutions. There can be several roles of healthcare managers that include staffing, accounting, planning, marketing, public relations, human resource management, etc. The primary aim of healthcare management is to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services in the most cost-effective manner. The scope of healthcare management professionals basically involves management of the internal affairs of the hospital or medical institutions. After completing Masters in health care, students can work as follows:
Health care Manager: Supervision is the main task of a health care manager.
Hospital administrator: Activities of all the departments are monitored and integrated by the administrator so that the whole organization works excellently.
Hospital/ Health project manager or health care finance manager: responsibility as a manager may involve planning, directing and supervising day-to-day operations along with facilitating daily financial operations, budgets, and analysis.

Masters in Health Care Management

MHCM course is designed to meet the needs of advanced level management practices and researches as required for health care & non-health care graduates. It is a blend of advanced level theories and practices with support of compulsory practicum and research program. It provides a wider spectrum of health and specific knowledge of management theory in health care management with IT backup.

Objectives
The MHCM program in the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) of Pokhara University is devoted to impart theoretical - cum - practical knowledge in Health Care Management. Specially, the program aims at:
• To Prepare students to upgrade professional level and managerial position either in Health Care Management or in Hospital Management..
• To Inculcate a Positive attitude, abilities and practical skills so essential for a competent and responsible manager into students.
• To prepare students to take position as the chief of the Hospital Management: Hospital Administrator in middle-sized hospitals, health projects or unit chiefs of large- scale health care organizations.

The duration of MHCM is 2 years with 4 semesters.

Eligibility Criteria
Bachelor Degree in Health Care Management or PGDHCM or any Doctors (MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BPT, Homeopathy and Naturopathy).

Admission Procedure
Eligibility: MHCM (Master of Health Care Management): BHCM, MBBS, PGDHCM, BAMS, BPT, Homeopathy, naturopathy or any Bachelor Degree in Health Science.

Entrance will take by Pokhara University in March and September (Fall and Spring Session) each year.

Exam Type:
• For fee paying: Written exam, 100 MCQs with 5 options- Verbal ability 25, Quantitative ability 25,
Logical Reasoning 25, and General Awareness 25; Time available - 2 hrs.

• For Scholarship: Written exam, 150 MCQs with 5 options- Verbal ability 40, Quantitative ability 40,
Logical Reasoning 40, and General Awareness 30; Time available - 3 hrs.
